Ukraine Orders Two-Month Limit for Frontline Troops Amid War Strain

Ukraine’s top military commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has ordered a strict time limit on how long soldiers can remain on the front lines, introducing a maximum deployment period of two months.

The directive aims to address the strain on troops who have often been forced to endure extended periods under intense combat conditions as the war with Russia drags into its fifth year.

Under the new policy, units must be rotated out within a month after completing their two-month frontline service.

Syrskyi said the measure is critical to preserving soldiers’ lives and maintaining the stability of Ukraine’s defenses, especially as modern warfare—dominated by drones—has created highly dangerous “kill zones” that complicate operations and logistics.

The decision follows public concern over troop welfare, including reports and images showing exhausted and poorly supplied soldiers.

Ukraine’s military continues to face manpower shortages, declining volunteer numbers, and logistical challenges, making improved rotation, medical checks, and consistent supply of food and ammunition a key priority for sustaining its war effort.
