Iran Reviews New U.S. Proposal as Both Sides Move Closer to Possible Deal

Iran has said it is reviewing a new proposal from the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Gulf, signaling a possible diplomatic breakthrough.

The proposal comes amid reports from multiple sources that both sides are edging closer to a preliminary agreement.

The potential deal is expected to take the form of a one-page memorandum of understanding, which would formally end hostilities and open the door for further negotiations on more complex issues.

These include Iran’s nuclear programme and broader security concerns that remain unresolved.

The discussions are being facilitated through mediators, particularly Pakistan, with Iran indicating it will respond to the U.S. proposal through diplomatic channels.

Iranian officials have stressed that any agreement must be “fair and comprehensive,” reflecting continued caution despite signs of progress.

While the draft agreement could include steps such as easing sanctions, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and limiting certain nuclear activities, key contentious issues—like Iran’s missile programme and regional alliances—are not yet fully addressed.

This suggests that even if a deal is reached, further negotiations will be required.

The prospect of a deal has already impacted global markets, with oil prices dropping and investor sentiment improving on expectations that the conflict could de-escalate.

However, officials on both sides acknowledge that no final agreement has been reached, and significant hurdles remain before a lasting settlement is secured.
