US Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship as Tehran Rejects a Second Round of Peace Talks

The United States has seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to a Reuters report. U.S. President Donald Trump said the vessel was intercepted after it attempted to breach a U.S.-imposed naval blockade targeting Iranian shipping routes.

American forces reportedly disabled the ship and took full control, marking a significant escalation in enforcement of the blockade.

The seizure comes as diplomatic efforts falter. Iran has rejected participation in a proposed second round of peace talks, accusing Washington of making “excessive demands” and maintaining inconsistent positions.

Tehran also cited the ongoing blockade as a key reason for refusing further negotiations, signaling that prospects for a near-term resolution to the conflict remain slim.

These developments highlight deepening instability in the region, where weeks of conflict and a maritime blockade have already disrupted global oil supplies and driven up prices.

With tensions rising and diplomacy stalled, both the military standoff and economic fallout—particularly in critical shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz—are expected to continue in the near term.
