U.S. Intercepts Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Asian Waters Amid Rising Tensions

The United States has intercepted at least three Iranian-flagged oil tankers in Asian waters, according to shipping and security source.

The vessels were located near India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka and were redirected or escorted away as part of a broader U.S. naval blockade targeting Iranian oil exports.

The intercepted ships include the Deep Sea, which was partially loaded and tracked near Malaysia; the Sevin, carrying about 65% of its capacity; and the Dorena, fully loaded with roughly two million barrels of crude and seen off southern India.

The Dorena is now under escort by a U.S. Navy destroyer, while a fourth vessel, Derya, may also have been affected after failing to unload cargo before sanctions were tightened.

The interceptions are part of an escalating maritime standoff linked to the ongoing U.S.–Iran conflict and enforcement of sanctions.

The blockade has already forced dozens of vessels to turn back and contributed to major disruptions in global oil supply, especially around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key route for a significant share of the world’s energy shipments.
