Iran Seizes Ships in Strait of Hormuz After Trump Extends Ceasefire

Iran has seized two foreign commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension of a fragile ceasefire aimed at pausing weeks of conflict.

According to Calabaronline, the ships—identified as the MSC Francesca and Epaminondas—were intercepted by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which accused them of violating maritime regulations and manipulating navigation systems.

The seizures come amid heightened tensions linked to a continuing U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, which Tehran considers a breach of the ceasefire.

Iran defended its actions as enforcement of control over the vital shipping lane, warning that security in the strait is a “red line.”

The incident marks Iran’s first such move since the conflict with the U.S. and Israel escalated earlier in 2026, further straining already stalled peace negotiations.

The situation has raised global concern due to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes.

Shipping disruptions and security fears have already pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel and reduced vessel traffic, intensifying risks to global energy markets.Diplomatic efforts—reportedly mediated by Pakistan—remain uncertain as both sides disagree on key issues, including sanctions and nuclear policy.
