Israeli Fire Kills Three in Gaza Following New Ceasefire Talks

Israeli fire killed at least three Palestinians in central Gaza on Monday, according to medics, in the latest violence to occur despite renewed ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.

The strike took place in Deir al-Balah, reportedly near a school sheltering displaced civilians, triggering grief and anger among residents who questioned the effectiveness of ongoing truce negotiations.

The incident comes as fresh diplomatic efforts involving mediators from Egypt, Turkey and Qatar attempt to stabilise a fragile ceasefire brokered in late 2025.

While the truce significantly reduced large-scale fighting, sporadic attacks have continued, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

Hamas has resisted calls to disarm under a U.S.-backed plan, insisting Israel must first fully comply with earlier phases of the agreement.

Despite the ceasefire, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with hundreds reportedly killed since the truce began and tens of thousands dead since the war erupted in 2023.

Israeli officials have warned that failure in the current negotiations could lead to a return to full-scale conflict, underscoring the fragile and uncertain nature of the peace process.
