    UNICAL VC Reacts to Unauthorized Charges, Remove Head of Department

    As a result of incessant increase of unauthorized charges by some Lecturer of the University of Calabar, the school management under the leadership of Prof. Florence Banku Obi has ordered the immediate stoppage of unauthorized charges levied on students by some heads of Departments/Unit.

    More so, the memo by the registrar of the institution, Prof. Gabriel Egbe, fcai did state that;

    ” The Vice Chancellor have ordered the removal of the head of department of computer science, Prof. Obeten Etabua with immediate effect”. The memo said in part

    Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor urges students in the faculty of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences to resist attempts by lecturers who compel them to get textbooks and a result of fulfilling their course requirements.

    UNICAL Security Arrest Thieves On Campus

    However, a three man fact-finding team consisting of:
    • Prof. Michael Okom – DVC Administration
    • Dr. Tony Eyang – Dean of Student Affairs
    • Mr. Okon Usani – Chief Security Officer

    Will work with the Students Union Government to investigate all reported extortion by lecturers and come up with their findings within 48 hours.

    In addition, the Vice Chancellor has further directed the stoppage of;
    1. Payment of CBT in GSS Examinations
    2. Payment of Library registration
    3. Payment for studio in the department of Science Laboratory Technology

    Meanwhile, students who had paid the above charges will have their monies refunded to them immediately. Every UNICAL PIKIN should also note that accreditation for the refunds of EDC excess payment made by students is still on till further notice.

    These measures taken by the management are actually coming after students leaders on Thursday, 4th of November, 2021 had planned to stage a “peaceful rally” on campus as a result of incessant charges by the school management.
