UNICAL suspend two undergraduates for the 2023/2024 academic session. A student in the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Social Sciences Education, University of Calabar, Otu, Ime Monday has been suspended by the school management. The notice of suspension was conveyed in a separate letter dated February 21, 2024, and signed by the University Registrar. Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have opted to continue their nationwide protest instead of embarking on a fresh strike over their withheld eight-month salaries by the Federal Government. ASUU Suspend 8-months-old Strike. After a six hour meeting which commenced at 7pm yesterday, the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action conditionally. However, the union president, Prof. Osodoke said the union will embark on another industrial strike action if the Federal Government failed to meet the agreement they had. The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Friday, ordered ASUU to call off its strike immediately. This is coming after the Industrial Court had on September 21, 2020 ordered the Union to resume academic activities. A three member panel of the Court of Appeal led by Hamma Barka granted the union permission to appeal the ruling of the industrial court but ruled that it must first resume work to be allowed to file the appeal.
