During a visit to Cameroon, Pope Leo XIV strongly criticized global leadership, warning that the world is “being ravaged by a handful of tyrants.” Speaking in the conflict-affected city of Bamenda, he condemned governments that spend vast resources on war while neglecting investment in education, healthcare, and reconstruction.

He called for a decisive shift away from violence and destruction toward peace and human development.

The pontiff also denounced leaders who use religion to justify wars, saying such actions corrupt the sacred for political and economic gain.

His remarks came amid heightened global tensions and followed public criticism from Donald Trump, though the pope avoided directly engaging in the dispute.

Instead, he reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against conflict, particularly ongoing wars linked to global power struggles.

Pope Leo’s visit, part of a wider African tour, highlighted Cameroon’s long-running separatist crisis, which has killed thousands and displaced many more.

His presence prompted a temporary ceasefire in the region and drew large crowds, offering a moment of hope for peace. He also criticized corruption and foreign exploitation of Africa’s resources, urging leaders to prioritize unity, justice, and reconciliation.
