Fuel price: Commercial Transport operators hike fares in Calabar

Commercial transport operators in Calabar, the Capital City of Cross River State have increased their fares by about 100 percent.

These commercial transport operators blamed the situation on the increase in the pump price of petrol to N200 per liter.

Currently, a trip from Etta Agbor to Marian and Mobil which attracted a fee of N100 before now has increased to N150.

Also, tricycle (Keke) operators now collect N100 for a trip from Goldie to Watt market rather than the N50 they used to get before.

Cab drivers charging N100 for a trip of N50, say they cannot buy fuel for N200 per liter and still charge the old price.

Some filling stations were not dispensing the product on Monday morning leading to more scarcity in the City.

When the Transport Commissioner, Oqua Edet was contacted, he said that he was not aware of such a development.

In his words: “If I find out such is true, I will summon a meeting with the transport unions in the state to address the issue.”

Will the price of transportation in Calabar ever return?
