    Renowned campus journalist, news editor, and on-air personality at UNICAL Radio International, Umoh Samuel, has been appointed Chief Press Secretary to the Vice President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Calabar.

    The appointment was announced by the SUG Vice President, Senator Egbeji Uchechukwu Pascaline, as part of the first batch of official appointments into key offices of the student union administration.

    Samuel, who has built a reputation for excellence in campus journalism, currently serves as a News Editor and On-Air Personality at UNICAL Radio International.

    Over the years, he has distinguished himself through objective reporting, compelling storytelling, and active coverage of student affairs, earning recognition within the University community.

    His appointment as Chief Press Secretary is widely seen as a reflection of his experience in media and strategic communication.

    In his new role, he is expected to oversee the Vice President’s media relations, coordinate official communications, and strengthen information dissemination between the Office of the Vice President and the student body.

    The announcement forms part of the Vice President’s commitment to building a focused, responsive, and purpose-driven administration, with all appointments remaining subject to ratification by the Students’ Union Senate.

    The appointment has continued to attract commendations from members of the University community, particularly within campus media and student leadership circles.

    Many have described the decision as a recognition of Samuel’s professionalism, consistency, and contributions to campus journalism.

    Reacting to the announcement, student leader Sen. Ozioma Obioha (Onuowu) praised the appointment, describing it as an emergence for competent media practitioners.

     “Una CPS de burst my brain. Competent minds. Battle of the inks…. Let’s go!!!! Congratulations Umoh Samuel.”

    The remark has since resonated across student platforms, reflecting the confidence many stakeholders have in Samuel’s ability to strengthen communication and public engagement within the Office of the Vice President.

    For many students and media stakeholders, the appointment represents not only a personal milestone for Umoh Samuel but also a recognition of the growing role of campus journalism in advancing transparency, accountability, and effective student governance at the University of Calabar.
