Arsenal Women staged a strong comeback to defeat Lyon Women 2–1 in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final at the Emirates Stadium.

The defending champions fell behind early in the match when Lyon’s Jule Brand scored in the first half, putting the visitors in control before the break.

Arsenal responded after halftime with improved intensity and pressure. Their equaliser came in the 59th minute through an own goal by Lyon defender Ingrid Syrstad Engen, following a costly defensive mistake.

The momentum shifted firmly in Arsenal’s favour as they dominated the second half and capitalised on Lyon’s defensive lapses.

The comeback was completed in the 83rd minute when Olivia Smith scored the winning goal after a mix-up between Lyon’s goalkeeper Christiane Endler and her defence.

The 2–1 victory gives Arsenal a slim advantage heading into the second leg in France, though the tie remains finely balanced.
