West Ham United have been relegated from the Premier League after failing to survive a dramatic final-day battle, while Tottenham Hotspur secured safety with a crucial victory over Everton.
West Ham went into the final round needing both a win over Leeds United and a Tottenham defeat to avoid dropping into the Championship.
The Hammers did their part with an impressive 3-0 victory, thanks to goals from Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson.
However, Tottenham held their nerve at home against Everton and claimed a tense 1-0 win.
Midfielder Joao Palhinha scored the decisive goal before halftime, and Spurs defended strongly in the closing stages to preserve their Premier League status.
The result meant Tottenham finished 17th with 41 points, just two points above West Ham, who ended the season on 39 points despite their final-day triumph.
Howevet, this is the highest points tally for a relegated Premier League side since the 2010-11 season.
West Ham’s relegation ends a 15-year stay in the English top flight and comes only three years after the club won the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Meanwhile the club’s downfall according to many sources is linked to poor early-season form, recruitment struggles and managerial instability, while Tottenham celebrated relief after narrowly avoiding their first relegation since 1977.
