The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Ukong Abraham, for unlawful possession of a firearm in Ikom Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 15, 2026, by a 22-year-old woman, Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect assaulted her, causing bodily harm.

Police detectives from the Ikom Division reportedly moved to invite the suspect for questioning, but he fled upon sighting the officers in an attempt to evade arrest. However, a coordinated, intelligence-led operation led to his eventual apprehension.

During interrogation, a search was conducted, which resulted in the recovery of a locally made pistol from the suspect.

The police said the suspect is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his activities and any possible links to other criminal offences.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal arms and ensuring public safety. It also urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines or at the nearest police station.
