Lazio reached the Coppa Italia final after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Atalanta, following a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Bergamo that left the tie level at 3-3 on aggregate.
Goalkeeper Edoardo Motta was the hero, saving four penalties to secure a 2-1 shootout win and send Lazio through.
The match itself was largely uneventful until late drama unfolded in normal time. Alessio Romagnoli gave Lazio the lead in the 84th minute, but Mario Pasalic responded almost immediately with an equaliser for Atalanta.
The game went into extra time after further chances, including a crucial save by Motta and two Atalanta goals ruled out following VAR checks.
In the shootout, Motta’s outstanding performance proved decisive as he denied all but one of Atalanta’s attempts, while Kenneth Taylor and Gustav Isaksen converted for Lazio.
The victory sets up a final clash against Inter Milan, scheduled for May 13.
