Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz as U.S. Maintains Naval Blockade, Trump Confirms

Iran has announced the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping following a ceasefire linked to the wider Middle East conflict, according to Reuters.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the waterway was now fully open for passage, raising hopes of easing tensions and restoring global oil flow.

The development comes amid a fragile truce involving Lebanon and ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war.

Despite the reopening, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that an American naval blockade targeting Iran would remain in force.

The blockade, imposed after recent peace talks in Islamabad failed to produce an agreement, is aimed specifically at restricting ships travelling to and from Iranian ports rather than halting all traffic through the strait.

Trump indicated optimism that a broader deal with Iran could be reached soon, though no clear timeline has been confirmed.

The situation reflects a mix of de-escalation and continued pressure, with diplomatic channels still active behind the scenes.

While the reopening of the strait has helped calm global energy markets and revive hopes for negotiations, the ongoing U.S. military presence and blockade underscore that the conflict has not yet been fully resolved
