Iran has denied allegations that it imposed toll charges on Indian tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Reuters report.

Tehran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, stated during a press briefing that no such payments had been collected, urging verification from Indian authorities.

His comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump warned that vessels paying Iran to transit the strategic waterway could face restrictions under a planned U.S. blockade.

The Indian government has also rejected claims of making any payments, saying that at least nine liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers successfully exited the strait without paying tolls.

This comes despite ongoing tensions in the region, where Iran has effectively restricted maritime movement following the outbreak of conflict.

However, India noted that about 15 of its flagged vessels remain stranded in the Persian Gulf amid the disruptions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy route, particularly for India, with roughly half of its crude oil and LPG imports passing through the corridor.Iran, while denying toll charges, has emphasized maintaining strong relations with India and signaled cooperation during the crisis, even as geopolitical tensions and the threat of further restrictions continue to affect shipping and energy flows.
