Governor Bassey Otu has announced the resumption of bursary payments for students of Cross River origin in tertiary institutions, alongside the introduction of special grants for medical students.

The governor said the initiative is part of his administration’s renewed focus on education and human capital development in the state.

The announcement was made during a State Executive Council meeting in Calabar, where Governor Otu explained that the bursary scheme had been inactive for more than a decade.

He stated that the revival of the programme would help reduce the financial burden on students and support those struggling to continue their education.

Governor Otu also disclosed that medical students would now benefit from special grants aimed at supporting their professional training.

According to him, the intervention is intended to strengthen the healthcare sector by encouraging and assisting future medical professionals in the state.

During the meeting, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving key sectors such as education, health and power.

He acknowledged that some areas of governance still require stronger attention and promised renewed efforts to deliver more development projects across the state.

Governor Otu further directed commissioners and heads of government agencies to submit reports of their achievements ahead of his administration’s third anniversary.
