FIFA is set to increase the prize money for the 2026 World Cup, with discussions underway to boost the financial rewards for all 48 participating teams.
According to reports, the proposal will be reviewed and potentially approved at an upcoming FIFA Council meeting ahead of the 76th FIFA Congress.
Initially, FIFA had already announced a prize pool of about $655 million representing a 50% increase from the 2022 tournament but the governing body is now considering raising that figure further due to expected revenues exceeding $11 billion for the 2023–2026 cycle.
The move also responds to concerns from national football associations about the rising costs of participation.48
