Crystal Palace made history after defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the 2026 UEFA Conference League final to claim the club’s first-ever European title.

The final was played at the Leipzig Stadium in Germany, with French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring the decisive goal in the second half to seal a memorable victory for the English side.

The match was tightly contested from the opening minutes, with both clubs appearing in their first major European final.

Rayo Vallecano created several dangerous chances in the first half, including efforts from Alemão and Unai López, but Crystal Palace remained organized defensively and survived the pressure.

Palace also threatened before halftime through Tyrick Mitchell, whose header narrowly missed the target.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 51st minute when Adam Wharton fired a long-range shot that was parried by Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla.

Jean-Philippe Mateta reacted quickest to the rebound and tapped home from close range, sending Crystal Palace supporters into celebration.

The goal proved enough to separate the two sides in what remained a tense and dramatic final.

Rayo Vallecano pushed hard for an equalizer and nearly found one when Yeremy Pino’s free-kick struck both goalposts moments after Palace scored.

Despite late pressure from the Spanish club, Crystal Palace defended resolutely to preserve their lead until the final whistle.

Midfielder Adam Wharton was widely praised for his performance and was named Player of the Match after creating Palace’s winning goal and controlling the midfield battle.

The triumph marks a historic achievement for Crystal Palace, becoming the club’s first European trophy and one of the greatest moments in their history.

Manager Oliver Glasner also ended his tenure on a high note after guiding the club to European glory. The victory secured Crystal Palace a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League and further established the club among Europe’s rising football sides.
