It was a sad moment for Abankang and Alok communities both in Ikom Local Government Area as no fewer than six (6) lives have been lost in the inter-communal conflict between the two neighboring communities both located along Ikom-Ogoja highway

According to verified reports, the two communities had engaged an argument over the ownership of a parcel of land at their boundary and on Wednesday strife broke out.

However, a resident of the area by name Mrs Janet Ndome told newsmen on the phone that crisis broke out when youths from the two communities engaged each other in a fight which degenerated to the use of machetes and guns leading to the loss of lives. “As I speak, fighting is on going and many persons had run flee for safety from both Alok and Abankang”.

She said movement along the Ogoja – Ikom highway has been forced to stop as motorists are scared of driving through the warring communities to avoid being attacked.

“So far no vehicle has been attacked but lot of roadblocks have been station by youths of both communities on the highway”

More so, the Cross River State Police Command Spoke person Mrs. Irene Ugbo, said she is yet to be briefed on the conflict.

Community clashes in the state have been witnessed in the past and mostly in the northern part of the state. The after-effect of the whole unlawful and I’ll act have always been bad.

Mostly, residents do lost houses, personal belongings, farmlands, and even love ones to dead
