Chelsea Sack Rosenior After Historic Goal Drought Deepens Crisis

London gaint Chelsea  have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior after a disastrous run that plunged the club into its worst scoring drought in 114 years, intensifying an already turbulent season.

The decision came less than four months after his appointment in January, following a humiliating 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., which marked the club’s fifth consecutive league game without a goal—a streak not seen since 1912.

Rosenior’s brief tenure, initially marked by promise, rapidly unravelled amid a sharp decline in form. Chelsea lost seven of their last eight matches across all competitions, including a crushing 8–2 aggregate exit to Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in the Champions League.

The team’s inability to score, coupled with mounting defeats, saw them slip to seventh in the league table, seven points off Champions League qualification places.

In a statement, the club said the decision “was not taken lightly” but acknowledged that performances had fallen below expected standards. Rosenior, who had signed a long-term deal running to 2032, admitted responsibility for the team’s struggles and publicly criticised his players’ lack of intensity in recent outings.

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim manager as Chelsea begin the search for a long-term solution amid growing fan unrest and internal instability.
