The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has rescued all 14 victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.

The rescue followed sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated efforts between both agencies. Security operatives reportedly intensified surveillance and carried out targeted raids on identified hotspots within the maritime corridor, leading to the safe release of the victims without any casualties.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the victims are currently receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing before being reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the joint operation, highlighting the professionalism and synergy displayed by personnel of the police and EFCC. He noted that the success demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges.

Authorities also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction. The Command assured that all perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Residents and maritime operators have been urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety along the waterways and across the state.
