It was a sad one yet again in Akwa Ibom State, southern part of Nigeria as a ghastly accident occurred between a tricycle, popularly known as “Keke Napep” who rammed into a loaded truck.
This happened in Saturday as around 07:45PM along Akon Itam, a highway situated at Itu Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking with a traveling in a telephone interview who pleaded to be anonymous, he said;
“This accident been happen along Akon Itam for Akwa Ibom as at Saturday when I been dey com back Calabar, the Keke been dey try overtake the truck then carry the passenger to hit for the pavement, three women died instantly and the driver been get serious injuries” – he said
“Youths for the community vex block road, no car dey from Uyo go and no car from Calabar dey enter Akwa Ibom, FRSC later come but the angry youths still pay deaf ears to them” – he added
However, the Deputy Corps commander of Road Safety Corp in charge of Operations, David Ironuje described the accident as unfortunate
“Our prayer is that deaths should be removed completely from our roads, it is so unfortunate that this one happened. Our advice is that the truck driver should not think that they are the owners of the road and the Keke Napep operators on their part should not be meandering along the road; some of them will see a truck coming and will like to quickly meander their way. This is very wrong, they should keep to their lanes. The Ember months are here with us, our prayer is that we will not experience fatal road crashes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the route is now free for commuters and travellers as security officials have have calm the enraged youths in that community.
